I like this photograph. The red sets a time around sunset, when many photos are taken at their best. I love how the light almost dances in the still picture, with light patches scattered around the scene. The scene seems almost a bit too red, possibly filtered, but I think it's nice. It's a change to most forest pictures which are filled with an almost overused melancholy green. I love how the tree leaves are so hot-coloured, yet the plants to the left are still somewhat green. It's an odd colour change, yet I find it nice.

The empty chair with no one sitting on it is a wonderful subject. It makes me feel alone and slightly sad. It gives me a feeling of emptiness like the chair itself, however the colouring still makes me feel warm even with this sense of loneliness. I'm not really given a chance to feel too sad with this warm encasing of trees to make me feel safe. The bench is placed in a wonderful way, even though I know that the photographer had no control over the placing whatsoever, other than where he used his camera. He used his camera spectacularly anyway. The chair is distanced perfectly, and I like that it isn't right in the middle, even though I know rule of thirds is a simple technique.

I know that trees are used in many photos, countless photos, there are absolutey billions of photos with the same plants. These trees seem special though. I can't tell if I think this because of the red lighting (possibly filter) or because of the partly distressed bark. It might be because of the variation in thickness of the trunks, but whatever it is, these trees look...new. I think that's the best way to describe it.

Althought this picture could seem melancholy and plain boring to others, a picture that has been seen a thousand other times, a scene that has been far too overused, I think this photograph is refreshingly original for something where the subject is a common bench. This is a great piece, regardless of how 'regular' the concept may appear. Bravo, Anothony.
